The definition of emo is just as convoluted as pop punk these days. My take in bullet points: Emo: More clean guitars, lots of alternate tunings. More meandering feel, slow/mid tempos. Lots of Major 7 chords, more texture in the guitars. Also more effects. More variation in vocals (rougher, shaky, overall less polished) Sometimes more technical.
